Hand print scanner

Well I’m continuing on with the corridor, not too far from attempting a low poly on all the the new geometry I’ve created. To add to the door, I’ve created a hand scanner that would read a humans finger/hand prints and would allow access past the door. Iv’e created a few different scanners but felt this one turned out best and fit the overall environment better than the rest. The large screen was what won me over, I liked the idea that an image of a hand print along with a massive “Access granted” that could be printed on to the screen before the locks opened, this design differed to the others as they all had much smaller screens and did not give off a presence of security as this one does.

While this hand scanner might not be the finished article, its at a point where I’m happy that with a good texture on it, it would be a good looking machine. I’ll update the images and the post if I add more to it.

Corridor Door

Having created a high poly section of corridor, I’ve proceeded to make a door that would fill the end of the corridor.

I wanted to make a door that would resemble a door from a spaceship, not only would it look sturdy and hard to break through but also air tight. To give the door a sense of protection I’ve also added a couple of bars across the centre that would act as a locking mechanism, my thinking is that the cylindrical handles would spin and the bars would retract thus allowing the doors to open and the player to proceed.

On the left of the image is the low poly of the door, I’ve attempted to take out as much as I can without loosing the too much of the detail that makes the door look like it does, while I’ve kept the sunken in sections as I want to keep the locking mechanism fairly detailed as this could be animated in the future.

Sci-fi corridor

With the down time of the summer in between years at university, I’ve decided to make a corridor so what could be a space ship or some kind of space station.

With some reference images found I moved on to creating the high poly, the images below should show the progress I’ve made with it. Once I feel the high poly has enough detail, I’ll move on to stripping it down so it becomes a low poly and begin to bake off the normal map.

I’ll post again once I’ve finished the low poly or if I come across any issues.

Hi and welcome

Well after having my own website up for nearly a year I felt it needed a change and seeing as my skills with many different programs had improved, I felt it was time to alter the whole thing, so as of now my website is up and live with a whole new look to it.

Over the coming weeks, months & and years I’ll be attempting to keep my blog on my website updated regularly, showing off what I’m doing and creating at the time, this involves any university assignments I’ll be working on, to my own personal pieces.

With any luck all of this will lead me to finding a job within the computer games industry.
